Heart of the City was crowned 'Outstanding Development of the Year' at last week's Insider South Yorkshire Property Dinner 2024.

Held at Sheffield City Hall, the awards event celebrated the region's most impressive projects, deals and industry professionals across Sheffield, Doncaster, Barnsley, and Rotherham.

Heart of the City – the major city centre regeneration scheme spearheaded by Sheffield City Council and its Strategic Development Partner, Queensberry – emerged as the winner of the evening’s most prestigious award. Heart of the City beat other impressive projects including the Olympic Legacy Park (Sheffield), AESSEAL Plc Factory for the Future (Rotherham), Doncaster 191, Forge Island (Rotherham) and Catalyst (Sheffield).

"It was a great honour to collect the award for Outstanding Development of the Year. So many businesses have worked together with the Council over the last decade to make Heart of the City a reality and this is fantastic recognition for everyone that has played a role. The scheme is kickstarting a new era for Sheffield City Centre – one we can all be excited about and proud of."
Sean McClean, Director of Regeneration and Development at Sheffield City Council

Heart of the City has transformed the city centre district between The Moor, Fargate and the Devonshire Quarter, delivering an array of new retail spaces, market-leading offices, homes, bars and cafés, a world class urban park, Europe’s largest purpose-built food hall and a Radisson Blu hotel.

The award underscores the collaborative effort and dedication of all involved, marking a significant milestone in Sheffield’s ongoing regeneration journey.
