Pret A Manger to open new shop in Heart of the City

Pret A Manger has today announced the opening of a new shop in Sheffield this November, creating 15 new jobs and bringing its freshly-made food and organic coffee back to customers in the city centre.

The new Pret unit on Cambridge Street

The new 1,200 sq ft unit fronts Cambridge Street and is located on the ground floor of the Isaacs Building – a new office building that forms part of the acclaimed Heart of the City scheme, developed by Sheffield City Council and its Strategic Development Partner, Queensberry.

Managed by franchise partner Exultant Group, the new shop will become Pret’s third in the city of Sheffield. They currently have a popular shop in Meadowhall and will also be opening a unit in Meadowhall Frasers on 25 September 2024. Exultant Group is looking to hire at least 15 local people to work at the new Pret ahead of its opening, with a range of roles available.

Having taken the difficult decision to close its Fargate shop during the pandemic, Pret is returning to a new central Sheffield location with more space for customers to either grab-and-go or eat-in, including 38 internal seats and 20 external seats.

The new shop is conveniently located for office workers and residents, serving up Pret’s extensive menu of freshly-made food, including sandwiches, salads, and wraps, as well as a variety organic coffees and teas, all made on-site by trained Baristas and kitchen staff throughout the day.

In addition to snacks and sweet treats, customers will also be able to enjoy Pret’s new autumn menu, featuring the return of its fan-favourite flatbreads and a new hot breakfast range for the cooler months, alongside classic seasonal drinks like the Pumpkin Spiced Latte.

The opening forms part of Pret’s commitment to reach more people in towns and cities across the UK. This includes its ongoing expansion across Yorkshire, with shops in Leeds, Bradford, Harrogate and York.

In partnership with The Pret Foundation, Pret and Exultant Group are set to work with three local charities in Sheffield, including Impact Living, S12 Richard Taylor and Royal Assembly, donating surplus food to at the end of each day.

Guy Meakin, UK Shops & Franchise Director at Pret A Manger, said:

“It’s wonderful to be bringing Pret back to Sheffield city centre and creating 15 new jobs in the local area. We know our freshly-made food and organic coffee is popular here, so we’re delighted to be opening a spacious new shop in the Heart of the City development, perfect for customers grabbing a bite on-the-go or sitting in to enjoy their Pret favourites. We can’t wait to welcome customers back when we open our doors in time for Christmas.”

Mizan Syed, Chief Executive Officer of Exultant Group, added:

“People in Sheffield tell us they love Pret A Manger, so we are delighted to be bringing a new store to the city centre, allowing more people to enjoy the freshly made food and quality drinks on offer at Pret. We are proud to be contributing to the local economy here by employing locally and using local contractors to fit out the unit.

“I am also incredibly proud that we will be helping those who are homeless or struggling with cost-of-living crisis by providing increased food donation from our sites.”

Cllr Ben Miskell, Chair of the Transport, Regeneration and Climate Policy Committee at Sheffield City Council, said:

“It is fantastic to welcome Pret to our incredible Heart of the City development. Their new shop is perfectly located and continues to add to the appeal of high value retail, food and beverage offering we have in the area. It has been a brilliant year so far for the city centre with the likes of Cambridge Street Collective and, more recently, Leah’s Yard opening to the public and proving incredibly popular and bringing more and more people into Sheffield. The addition of Pret continues the incredible transformation of the city centre into a greener, thriving and more vibrant place to work, live and visit.”

Andrew Davison, Project Director at Queensberry, added:

“Pret is a continuously sought-after brand and it’s great to have them back in the City Centre and in our Heart of the City Development.

“We have always targeted a mix of high-quality national and independent lettings in Heart of the City. Pret brings something new to scheme, with its grab-and-go offer really complementing our other food and drink venues whilst supporting the lunches or our office developments.”
